Role Summary

This job is an excellent opportunity to join one of the leading environmental organisations in Brussels. Friends of the Earth Europe (FoE Europe) campaigns for sustainable and just societies and for protection of the environment. It unites more than 30 national organisations with thousands of local groups and is part of Friends of the Earth International, the world’s largest grassroots environmental network.

The Grant Manager is part of the Finance team and reports to the Head of Finance and Resources. S/he is responsible for the effective financial and administrative management, monitoring and reporting of Friends of the Earth Europe's grants, ensuring full compliance with donor requirements including the EU, national   governments and private foundations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Grant Manager is responsible for day-to-day management of multi-beneficiary grants including technical support to project teams and partners to ensure compliance with grant agreements,  donor regulations and internal policies. The role coordinates  financial reporting for projects, monitors project implementation,  provides support for project audits, delivers capacity building  and training to staff and partners, and promotes best practices in grant management.

The Grant Manager will prepare high quality financial and narrative grant reports and supporting documentation for review and approval by the Head of Finance and Resources prior to  submission to donors. The role also ensures effective coordination  between programme teams and the finance function to ensure that project delivery, financial accountability, donor compliance and organizational objectives remain aligned.

PROFIEL

Essential

  • Committed to Friends of the Earth’s vision, mission and values;

  • Relevant professional qualifications in finance and/or accounting, proven 3 years hands-on accounting or grant management experience; 

  • Experience in preparation of financial reports, project budgeting and controlling;

  • Understanding of financial management and project accounting within a non-profit context;

  • Experience working with accounting software packages, or good understanding of accounting principles;

  • Solid knowledge and experience in EU project finance management; preferably Life (Operating Grant);

  • Able to both work within and further develop existing systems and procedures;

  • An international approach and understanding of cultural differences, strong communication, diplomacy and negotiation skills;

  • Ability tackle multiple deadlines and requirements, be a self-starter, innovative and demonstrate the capacity for maintaining high professional standards;

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications and especially Excel;

  • Strong analytical skills. Detail oriented and ability to work and interpret numbers, figures and other financial information;

  • Able to work systematically and autonomously and with attention to details;

  • Excellent command of English, which is the working language for this post;

 

Desirable

  • A background in NGO or voluntary activities;

  • Knowledge of EU funding and reporting;

  • Experience of using different reporting platform of private donors for uploading or directly reporting information systems;

  • Experience in tendering, subcontracting and management of consultants or administrative assistants;

  • Working knowledge of other European languages is an advantage;

  • Languages:

  • Fluency in English;

  • French or Dutch is desirable (for dealings with Belgian authorities);

  • Additional European languages are an asset.

AANBOD

What We Offer:

The position is offered as a part  time (60%) position in Brussels, Belgium on a permanent contract. We offer a salary between € € 4510.04  and € 4913.38 for a full time and between € 2706.02 to  €2948.02 for 60% depending on a competency assessment. This part time position is subject to change to full time (100%) by July 2027 depending on the performance and budget availability.

FoEE offers an attractive benefits package, including a 13th month salary, lunch vouchers, an additional 5 days of holidays per year, pension scheme, hospitalisation and comprehensive travel insurance. We also offer full coverage of train travel in case of commuting within Belgium. FoEE offers the possibility to work from another EU country for up to six weeks per year and offers a motivating working environment in an international office located in an environmentally-friendly NGO building.

To carry out the job, the candidate must be based in Belgium. The job is subject to FoEE’s teleworking policy, which allows for hybrid working.
